It has been proven that there is a connection between light and the release of "happy" neurotransmitters. A lack of light, e.g. in the winter, may lead to depressions. The release of these neurotransmitters requires a minimum brightness of 1.000 lux. The maximum brightness of the Laxman offers a much higher light intensity and is thus very well suited to compensate a lack of light. Color therapy is an area of holistic healing which uses color in an attempt to affect our mood, emotions and possibly even our health. How Does Color Therapy Work? Most of us feel better and more cheerful on a sunny day than on a gloomy, sunless day. Some people living in areas which do not get many sunny days in the winter develop Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Studies have indicated that working the grave yard shift may be detrimental to your health. We need light to be healthy. Even though we don't normally see it, the light around us contains the full spectrum of colors. Each color has its own frequency and vibration. In some natural healing schools of thought, different colors are believed to relate to different parts of our body. You may want to read more about these energy centers, or chakras. It is thought by some that our tissues and organs need the same energies as light. When disease or injury disturbs the vibration and energy of an organ or area of our body, applying the associated color frequency can restore the body to health. Eastern medical practice teaches that we have meridians which carry energy through the body and connect to each organ. This is the theory behind acupuncture which attempts to remove blockages to the energy flow. Color is thought to do the same thing. Each color's vibration is associated with different attributes and qualities. Light entering through our eyes may trigger the production of hormones which control the biochemical system of the body. It also can influence our emotions and well-being by supplying the frequency we need to keep our mind and body in balance. Color does not heal. Rather, it enables the body to heal itself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromotherapy Chromotherapy, sometimes called color therapy, colorology or cromatherapy, is an alternative medicine method. It is claimed that a therapist trained in chromotherapy can use color and light to balance energy wherever a person's body be lacking, be it physical, emotional, spiritual, or mental. The practice has been labelled pseudoscientific by its critics. Color therapy is unrelated to light therapy, a valid and proven form of medical treatment for seasonal affective disorder and a small number of other conditions. HistoryAvicenna (980-1037), who viewed color to be of vital importance in diagnosis and treatment, discussed chromotherapy in The Canon of Medicine. He wrote that "Color is an observable symptom of disease" and also developed a chart that related color to the temperature and physical condition of the body. His view was that red moved the blood, blue or white cooled it, and yellow reduced muscular pain and inflammation. He further discussed the properties of colors for healing and was "the first to establish that the wrong color suggested for therapy would elicit no response in specific diseases." As an example, "he observed that a person with a nosebleed should not gaze at things of a brilliant red color and should not be exposed to red light because this would stimulate the sanguineous humor, whereas blue would soothe it and reduce blood flow."[1] In the 19th century, healers claimed colored glass filters could treat many diseases including constipation and meningitis. Photobiology, the term for the contemporary scientific study of the effects of light on humans, has replaced the term chromotherapy in an effort to separate it from its roots in Victorian mysticism and to strip it of its associations with symbolism and magic.[2] Light therapy is a specific treatment approach using high intensity light to treat specific sleep, skin and mood disorders.
